Evaluating Spreadsheets

I glanced through a literature classes use of spreadsheets in a project entitled "Themes of Courage" in a local Kuna classroom. This project had students working on research papers along with powerpoint presentations on the Vietnam War and reading Tim O’Brien’s The "Things They Carried". The students would keep a jouranl as well as learn more about the American culture during the Vietnam war, including media, music and more. The students were then put in groups to present a topic of the time.

I would incorperate this into my classroom by using her spreasheet template to mimic a similiar assingment to work along a book my class would be reading. For example if we were reading the "The Crucible", I could split them into groups and create the assignmnet outline/handout on a spreasheet to inform them of out project. They then could do similar research using computers on the time period in the book, as well set up a interactive center that would show life in a witch town in the period. Her use of the spreadsheet was shown very clearly through her rubric for the handout and presentations requirements.
